FULL Fortnite Optimization Guide (Boost FPS, Lower Delay)

1. Optimal In-Game Video Settings

  • Window Mode: Use Full Screen for the lowest latency and best performance. If you prefer Windowed Full Screen, enable "optimizations for windowed games" in Windows Graphics settings for similar performance.

  • Resolution: Stick to 1920x1080 (Native) for full FOV, crisp visuals, and no scaling delay, especially if you have a capable PC. Stretch resolutions are only recommended for low-end PCs.

  • V-Sync: Turn Off.

  • Frame Rate Limit (FPS Cap):

    • Set the in-game FPS limit to Unlimited.

    • For Nvidia GPUs: Use the Nvidia Control Panel's Max Frame Rate feature in 3D settings, setting it to your monitor's refresh rate. Also, disable Nvidia Reflex Low Latency if using this cap method to avoid frame drops.

    • For AMD GPUs: Use the Radeon Chill feature, setting both the minimum and maximum FPS to your monitor's refresh rate.

  • Performance Mode: The newer DX12-based Performance Mode typically offers better FPS and frame times than the older Legacy mode in about 75% of cases, especially on newer PCs. It is recommended to test both to see which performs better for your specific setup.

  • Graphics Quality:

    • 3D Resolution: Keep at 100%.

    • Dynamic 3D Res: Turn Off.

    • View Distance: Set to Medium or Far for a competitive advantage, as it allows you to see floor loot from a greater distance with minimal FPS difference.

    • Textures: Set to Low.

    • Meshes: Set to Low for better performance, latency, and improved breaking animations.

2. Interface and Game Settings

  • In-Game FPS Counter: Disable the in-game FPS counter, as it can slightly hurt performance, especially on low-end PCs. Use an external tool like Riva Statistics Tuner instead.

  • Replays: Disable all replay settings to prevent constant recording in the background, which consumes system resources.

  • Energy Saving: Disable both energy-saving methods.

  • Gameplay Privacy: Disable all unnecessary gameplay privacy settings that run in the background.

  • Sound Quality: Use High, unless you are on a super low-end PC.

3. Network and System Optimizations

  • QoS Policy (Quality of Service): Create a Policy-based QoS rule in Windows (using gpedit.msc) to prioritize Fortnite's network packets over others. This helps achieve lower and more stable ping and can fix packet loss.

  • Fortnite Priority: Ensure Fortnite's process priority is set to Normal. Manually setting it to high can lead to unstable performance and may starve important drivers/services (like your mouse and keyboard) of resources, increasing input lag.

  • Epic Games Launcher Settings:

    • Check Pre-downloaded Streaming Assets.

    • Uncheck High-Resolution Textures.

    • Remove any unnecessary additional command line arguments that may be causing harm.

    • Disable notifications and ensure "allow installs during gameplay" and "limit download speeds" are unchecked.

4. Applying a Stretch Resolution

For users who want to use a stretch resolution (like the recommended 1720x1080 for competitive play):

  1. Create Custom Resolution: Use your GPU software (Nvidia Control Panel or AMD software) to create and test the desired custom resolution.

  2. Enable Scaling: In the GPU settings (Adjust desktop size and position), make sure GPU Scaling is turned on.

  3. Disable Monitor Drivers: Go to Device Manager, find your monitor(s), and disable the generic PnP drivers. This allows the game to display the custom resolution properly.

  4. Apply in Fortnite: Change your resolution to the custom stretch resolution directly within the Fortnite video settings
